About Us

WELCOME TO ENGINEERS FOR THE PROFESSION
Mission

E4P is a non-partisan, political entity advocating for the full utilization of applied science and engineering in order that the interests of the public are served and protected.

Vision

We envision a Transformative* Advancement of Technology so that Applied Scientists and Engineers are:

  1. Recognized for their ability to advance our economy and, thus, society’s well-being, and
  2. Empowered to use their skills to enhance the public interest.

Our practitioners must become more involved with public policy and politics. The accelerating rate of change exposes humanity to ever more potent technologies within diminishing time to accommodate them. Applied Scientists and Engineers must engage with our political leaders, and themselves become political leaders, to ensure our technology provides benefits while mitigating the dangers of misapplication.

Goals And Objectives
  • Advocate for the creation of an ‘Engineer General’, a Minister of the Crown, to focus on Technology Strategy.
  • Promote Discipline Specific licensure to recognize the range of engineering practices.
  • Recognize the need for Umbrella Legislation to govern the expanding number of new practices.
Who We Are

Prior to coming into existence in Mar 2021, E4PInc adherents have had a long history of concern about the direction of profession, going back to the 1990’s. We have continually advocated for the betterment of Applied Science and Engineering. The initial Board of E4PInc has three PEO past Presidents, and several past and current members of PEO Council.

We recognized the growth of Emerging Disciplines with several of our supporters engaging with Emerging Disciplines Task Forces for over 30 years. As a result, PEO has recognized Software Engineering, Bio Engineering, Cyber Systems Security Practices and Nano Molecular Engineering as unique practices within the engineering profession.

Today, we have over 35 different practices, most of which were created within the last 70 years BUT; we do not have proper licensing with exclusive rights to practice. The profession has allowed a “wild west” SITUATION to HAPPEN within these practices exposing the general public to serious risks. E4P believes this must change for the sake of societal well-being.

* Transformative is adapted from the concept of Transformative Mediation, meaning that the parties involved are both recognized (given credibility) and empowered (made to feel their views are valid). Both are needed for the Applied Science and Engineering community.
